That's how you get to be an experienced commercial photographer. All the gear, education and opportunity in the world doesn't come into play until the shutter is released on behalf of a paying client.
My shutters have been released professionally for over 25 years. The last 15 years have been while operating as a freelancer, using the company name of Designwoerks. During that time, I have shot for an array of clients, from aerospace to banking. From manufacturing to health care.
My clients have come to depend on me as a trusted marketing partner, providing high quality images at rates that are genuinely competitive.
Although I do a lot of work in my own studio, I shoot many assignments on location. The image seen here, for instance, was done through an advertising agency for Via Christi hospital.

This kind of photography communicates on an emotional level. Viewers feel connected to the people that they see in my images, and can imagine themselves in their place.
Architects are the sculptors of skylines and spaces. Architectural photography assignments are approached with an appropriate respect for what they have done.
I tend to see beauty where some miss it, and feel compelled to invest the same artistic process in a plumbing tool as I do in an expensive handmade bracelet.
The concept of "better business by design" is actually the motto that I have included at the bottom of every Email for over a decade. It seems like most design projects that come my way are tight on budget and schedule, and are expected to gain significant market share when completed. That's fine with me. I live for this kind of challenge. As a result, my work gets the job done.
Over the past 30 years, I've produced a mountain of work. Ads, brochures, direct mail, displays, logos, apparel... you name it. Obviously, I can only show a representative portion. If what you find here has your interest, you can see more by uploading the low resolution PDF version of my design portfolio by clicking on the link below. If you need a high resolution PDF, please contact me, and I will send one right away.
“Why are you an artist?”, people ask, expecting a well-ordered classroom definition. But my answer is more simple.
“I can’t help it. It’s who I am.”
The truth is that I am inventive and original in every way that I can express myself. It’s how I see and experience the world.
During the 30 years that I have been in this business I have been a sculptor, painter, illustrator, art director, writer, photographer, videographer, editor, set builder, mentor and even inventor.
What form my creativity will take on any given day depends on the job in front of me. As market demands change and communications technology evolves, I'm changing and evolving right along with them. I can hardly wait to see what's next.
Right now, I'm looking for new partners in this adventure. If you're looking too, let's talk.
